TIP OF THE MONTH:
In the coming months our weather will be cooling off, and that means a lot of you will be going darker, the best and least damaging way to convert to the darker hues is by slowly adding lowlites to your hair. Then you can transition slowly into the cooler hues while still maintaining the integrity of your hair. Also make sure you get deep penetrating treamtments with your color to assure softness and shine while your color is progressing to the darker side.. There are great ways to keep your color from fading. Use cool water when you rinse your hair. When you swim, tan, or excercise be sure to rinse out your hair with cool water to keep the scalp cool, as the heat of your scalp will alter the color. There are some beautiful new colors coming for Fall 2008. Come in and let's pick the perfect color made just for you. Customized colors are very personal and special. It is your signature color chosen by you, formulated and created by me. You will love it!!
SOME HELPFUL TIPS:
Finding a new hair designer can be a little scary. Unless you are fortunate enough to have a trusted friend or coworker that can refer you to someone they know and trust, it may take some time. This is a helpful tip that I suggest to clients that travel or are moving. It is how i acquired many of my clients.
The best way to find a suitable hair professional is to check out salons. Tell them you just want to look through some magazines and observe the staff. See who interacts professionally and artistically, who guides and listens to their clients, not controls and ignores them. If you find someone you like, set up a consultation and measure your comfort level with them. If you felt good during that consult, then book your appt, and go from there.
HAIRCUTS:
When deciding on a cut or color there are many things to consider. First your face shape, then your facial features, your lifestyle, your desired level of time you want to spend fixing it, and of course, your budget. There are some great cuts out now that require just shake and go. Then there are some that are more precise and sculpted that need more attention. We know how to design and color your cut, but you know how your hair responds and how much effort you are willing to give.
After talking to a client for a bit, I can look at their face and know what style and color would look good on them, and i have been really lucky that most of my clients trust me and say "do what you think would look good on me".
Trust between your hairdesigner and you is crucial. It will not work any other way. You can do baby steps if you are unsure of what you want, never feel pressured. Always feel sure of what you will be comfortable with.
Make sure you have the right hair texture and density to support the cut you want. There are many cutting, coloring and volumizing wave techniques that can make your hair do amazing things.
COLOR:
Never use store bought metallic dyes. They are the hardest color to correct and can be very damaging. If you must color your hair at home, there are some non professional user friendly brands out there. However, it is always best to have your hair colored in a salon. You are guaranteed that you will get the symetric, customized color made just for you, that you can not get out of a box. You will have the envy from all your friends when they see how the color was matched with your skin tone, your facial features, your hair texture, etc. These are things you can never get out of store bought color.
Before Colors-
Do not tan, swim, or workout. It can increase the heat to your scalp, cause hot spots and you will not achieve precise and even color.
Let your designer know if you are pregnant, on your menses, menopausal or anything that teeters your hormones. Also inform them if you are on any types of medication. All that will alter the outcome of your color service.
After Colors-
It is best not to shampoo for 24 hours. The color will suffer some fadage and can minimize the longevity of the vibrancy. Always use professional color treated hair products, they will protect your color.
Do not tan, swim, or workout as that can increase heat on scalp and can create a warm color band.
BLOW DRY/STYLING:
Make sure that your hair is towel dried and most of the moisture is out or you will burn you hair shaft. If you want to create volume in finer hair, air dry first, then add some product and flip your head over and blow dry it. Then you can fine tune it with a round or paddle brush and then curl it after. If you use a brush while you are drying you will make it very straight and take out all the body.
If you want your hair mega straight, use that appropriate hair serum. When you have towel dried your hair, use your desired brush and section out your hair and apply a little tension and proceed to blow it out. Then use a thermal protectant spray and flatiron it. Finish up with a shine spray or drops.
After you towel dry your hair, NEVER use a brush of any kind to comb out your hair. Your hair is the most fragile when wet and with too much pulling and tension it can break apart. Use a wide tooth comb or pic or those really large big combs to comb out the tangles. When all the tangles are out and the comb slides through easily, then you can begin to blowdry your hair with a brush.
In case your hair gets stuck in a brush. Do not pull on it. You will break the hair right off. Wet the hair where the brush is stuck, add alot of conditioner, then slowly slide the brush out of it. If you do not have the patience or do not feel comfortable doing it, come into the salon and I will do it for you.
I will periodically post new tips and advice ,,,,if you have any thing you want to know, email me and I will reply.
